The Producer
This Stellenbosch red blend 2021 arrives without a label — and that is the point. We sourced it through WineTrader’s estate relationships: a parcel from a Stellenbosch producer who cannot release this wine under their own name. We protect their identity; you get insider access to serious, cellar-worthy red at a price a front label would never allow.
Vintage & Terroir
2021 handed the Cape one of its best red seasons in years. A cold, wet winter ran long, and cool conditions held through spring, summer and much of harvest — slow, steady, stress-free ripening instead of a scramble against the heat. Reds came in with excellent flavour and tannin development at moderate alcohol and good acidity, which is the combination that makes a wine worth keeping. The fruit came off the same iconic koffieklip vineyards that built The Unbroken’s reputation — free-draining, iron-rich ferricrete that pushes the vines to work for every drop of flavour. Poor soil, low vigour, small berries, concentrated flavour.
In the Cellar
Extended maceration built the structure, drawing colour and firm tannin off the skins over a long, patient cuvaison. Careful oak ageing followed, chosen to round the tannin without burying the dark-fruited core underneath it. Nothing here is rushed and nothing is over-worked. The result is full-bodied and properly built — good drinking now, better in five years, and holding comfortably beyond that.
Tasting Notes
Nose: dark berries, dusty florals and a fine mineral edge. Palate: full-bodied and firm, with structured tannin and layered complexity. Finish: long and food-friendly, with a graphite note that lingers well past the last sip. Decant it if you are opening one young.
Food Pairing
Built for the braai and beyond. Pair it with grilled red meat, boerewors, or a rich beef stew that has had all afternoon. Equally at home with hard cheeses and biltong for a low-key evening in. Order your case and keep the Tribe fed.
