The Producer
The Asara Vineyard Collection Sauvignon Blanc comes from Asara Wine Estate on Polkadraai Road in Stellenbosch — one of South Africa’s most decorated wine valleys, where working vineyards, a cellar and a boutique hotel share the same historic address. It’s part of the estate’s Vineyard Collection: a fruit-forward, everyday range built for effortless drinking rather than the cellar, and a dependable expression of what Stellenbosch does with this variety.
Vintage & Terroir
2023 was a difficult, wet Cape season — late-harvest rain and disease pressure trimmed yields to some of the smallest in a decade. Sauvignon Blanc was the exception. Blocks picked ahead of the March rains came in at low pH, high acidity and ideal sugar levels, and the cooler, extended ripening window that defined the vintage pushed the fruit toward freshness and site expression rather than raw ripeness — precisely the profile this grape rewards.
In the Cellar
In keeping with the Vineyard Collection style, this Sauvignon Blanc is fermented cool in stainless steel with no oak contact, an approach built to protect primary fruit and aromatic lift rather than add texture or wood. It’s a fresh, varietal-driven white made for drinking now, not for the cellar.
Tasting Notes
Pale straw in the glass. The nose opens with lime and green apple, a lift of freshly cut grass, and a touch of tropical fruit. The palate is crisp and zesty, carrying that citrus and tropical fruit through to a clean, mineral finish. Refreshing rather than heavy, with the acid structure the 2023 vintage was built on.
Food Pairing
Pour it alongside grilled linefish, fresh oysters or a simple green salad — anything the Cape coast puts on the table on a hot day. It also earns its place as a braai starter wine or alongside a light seafood platter. Order your case and keep the Tribe fed.
