Description
The Pilgrim Chenin Blanc 2022, made by Henry Kotzé, is a bold, expressive white that balances precision and personality. This vintage offers a vibrant take on South African Chenin—textural, aromatic, and confidently fresh.
In the glass, it shows a golden hue with a subtle green edge. On the nose, jasmine and elderflower lead, joined by notes of caramel and toffee from light skin contact. A small portion of whole-bunch fermentation (10%) adds complexity. Earthy tones of tilled soil and fresh hay bring depth. With time, look for marmalade, lemon rind, and blood orange to emerge.
The palate is lively and structured. Kotzé picked earlier to lock in acidity, which adds focus and energy. Sweet citrus, pith, and orange oil dance across the mid-palate. Fine tannins and a clean line of acidity carry the finish.
This wine is unfined, unfiltered, and fermented with care. Natural sediment may appear—evidence of honest, hands-off winemaking.
Pilgrim Chenin Blanc 2022 offers a sensory journey. It’s fresh now, but will age gracefully into something waxy, savoury, and even more layered. Whether you drink it young or cellar it for later, it rewards curiosity and reflection.
