THE WINE
The Tin Mine Red is Zevenwacht’s showpiece Rhône-style blend — Syrah and Mourvèdre from estate vineyards on south-westerly and westerly slopes of Stellenbosch, at altitudes between 100m and 200m above sea level. The 2022 vintage won Best Rhône-Style Red Blend at the 2025 Investec Trophy Wine Show — widely regarded as South Africa’s most rigorous wine competition.
Cellarmaster Hagen Viljoen — named inaugural Investec Champion Winemaker of the Year at the same event — fermented 50% of the Syrah with 30% whole bunches for added spice and perfume, then aged the blend for 12 months in 500L French oak barrels with 20% new wood.
TASTING NOTES
Complex nose of blackberry, cranberry and dark cherries with savoury herbs and peppery spice. The palate delivers ample dark fruit with subtle, well-integrated tannins — underpinned by elegant oak that adds structure without dominating. Balanced and persistent.
FOOD PAIRING
Pan-seared pork tenderloin with roasted root vegetables, venison, or braaied meats. Built for bold, savoury plates.
