The Producer
Stettyn Family Vineyards is one of the Breede River Valley’s most storied estates, with roots stretching back to 1714. Acquired by the Botha family in 1818, the estate has been lovingly farmed for eight generations. Today, under the guidance of winemaker JM Crafford, 438 hectares of vineyard thrive in the sheltered valley between Villiersdorp and Worcester. Barrel maturation and the serious science of making fine Sauvignon Blanc has become a key focus area for the Stettyn cellar team.
Vintage & Terroir
This Sauvignon Blanc is from Stettyn’s premium Family Vineyards range — a step up from the Tobie everyday collection. The 2025 vintage was grown in the cooler, elevated vineyard blocks of the Worcester ward, where cool mountain breezes and significant day-night temperature variation preserve the grape’s signature aromatic intensity and racy acidity. The deep alluvial soils contribute a mineral backbone to the wine.
In the Cellar
The grapes were harvested in the cool early morning hours and gently whole-bunch pressed. Cold settling followed by slow fermentation at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks ensured maximum preservation of the vibrant varietal character. The Sauvignon Blanc 2021 earned a Veritas Silver medal, and this 2025 release continues that quality trajectory.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Brilliant pale straw with a lively green shimmer.
Nose: Intensely aromatic — ripe passion fruit and guava, layered with cut grass, green pepper and a flinty mineral note.
Palate: Crisp and vibrant, with concentrated tropical fruit, gooseberry and a zesty lime-driven acidity. Medium-bodied with more depth and concentration than an everyday Sauv.
Finish: Long and refreshing, with lingering grapefruit and a mineral farewell.
Food Pairing
Superb with fresh West Coast oysters, grilled crayfish, or a tangy goat’s cheese salad. Also a winner alongside sushi, green Thai curry, or simply a plate of Kalamata olives and feta. Serve well chilled at 8–10°C.
