The Producer
Stettyn Family Vineyards is one of the Breede River Valley’s most storied estates, with roots stretching back to 1714. Acquired by the Botha family in 1818, the estate has been lovingly farmed for eight generations. Today, under the guidance of winemaker JM Crafford and CEO Sarel Meyer, 438 hectares of vineyard thrive in the sheltered valley between Villiersdorp and Worcester. The original Cape Dutch homestead, dating to 1777, is now a National Monument — a fitting symbol of Stettyn’s deep commitment to heritage and quality.
Vintage & Terroir
Pinot Noir is notoriously fussy about where it grows, demanding cool conditions and careful handling at every step. Stettyn’s elevated vineyard blocks in the Worcester ward benefit from cool mountain breezes and significant day-night temperature swings that help the grape retain its delicate aromatics and natural acidity. The 2024 vintage offered excellent conditions for this sensitive variety, with gradual ripening that built layers of flavour.
In the Cellar
Winemaker JM Crafford treated this Pinot Noir with a light touch — gentle extraction during fermentation preserved the grape’s characteristic silky texture and perfumed fruit. Fermented at moderate temperatures in stainless steel, the wine was handled minimally to let the varietal character speak for itself. A short period of ageing rounded out the tannins for an approachable, elegant red.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Translucent ruby with a garnet-tinged rim.
Nose: Fragrant and alluring — ripe cherry, strawberry and cranberry, with subtle earthy notes, dried herbs and a hint of sweet spice.
Palate: Light to medium-bodied with a silky texture. Bright red berry fruit, gentle tannins and a savoury undertone create a wine of real elegance and drinkability.
Finish: Delicate and lingering, with cherry and spice trailing off gracefully.
Food Pairing
A natural match for roast duck, pan-seared salmon, or a mushroom and truffle pasta. Works beautifully with charcuterie and soft cheeses like Camembert. Also lovely alongside a classic tomato-based Italian dish. Serve lightly chilled at 14–16°C.
