The Story: Robertson’s Cozy Red
Part of the Lekker Labels, the Steel Wines Red Blend 2022 is a medium-bodied, approachable red from the Robertson Valley. Crafted from 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Shiraz, this blend brings together the richness of dark berries and gentle spice, perfect for intimate dinners, cosy evenings by the fire, or sharing with friends.
Vineyards & Terroir
Sourced from two unique blocks in Robertson and Bonnievale, both planted on predominantly “Karoo Rooi” soils with speckles of limestone, shale, and quartz. These carefully selected parcels provide fruit with depth, balance, and expressive character, reflecting the region’s heritage and Jason Steel’s dedication to small-batch craftsmanship.
In the Cellar
The grapes were crushed, destemmed, and naturally fermented in open-top bins with a small portion of carbonic maceration. Gentle daily punch downs ensured optimum extraction. The wine was pressed and matured in old 500-litre French oak barrels for 12 months before being lightly filtered and fined for bottling, resulting in a soft, layered, and food-friendly red.
