The Story: Summer Fun from Bonnievale
Part of the Lekker Labels collection, the Steel Wines Cinsault 2023 is a playful, light-bodied summer red. Bursting with crunchy red berry flavours, it’s Jason Steel’s “Gummy Beary juice for adults” — perfect for picnics, poolside sipping, or relaxed summer gatherings.
Vineyards & Terroir
Grapes are sourced from a 0.29-hectare vineyard of ~1400 vines planted in 2007 adjacent to the Breede River near Bonnievale. Sandier, alluvial soils and proximity to the river lend freshness, bright acidity, and a pure fruit profile.
In the Cellar
After crushing and destemming, a portion of the grapes underwent carbonic maceration to retain bright, juicy fruit notes. Juice was pressed and racked into old 225-litre French oak barrels for natural fermentation and 12 months of ageing. Light filtration and gentle fining were applied before bottling to preserve vibrancy and texture.
