The Producer
Jason’s Hill Private Cellar is a family-run estate at the foot of the Slanghoek Mountain in the Breedekloof wine valley — one of South Africa’s most beautiful and underrated wine regions. The Du Toit family has been farming this land since 1844, and winemaker Ivy du Toit established the cellar in 2002 to craft wines that reflect the unique character of the Slanghoek Valley. Her impact on the South African wine industry has been significant — Ivy was the first woman to win the Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year award (2003) and was named Landbou Weekblad Woman Winemaker of the Year in 2004. The Breedekloof is one of South Africa’s premier Chenin Blanc regions, and Jason’s Hill sits right at its heart.
Vintage & Terroir
The 2025 vintage in the Slanghoek Valley produced bright, aromatic Chenin Blanc grapes thanks to the region’s ideal growing conditions. The Breedekloof’s deep, fertile alluvial soils and warm Mediterranean climate provide the foundation for richly flavoured fruit, while the dramatic Slanghoek Mountains — towering over 1,500 metres — channel cool air through the valley each evening, preserving the natural acidity and freshness that make Breedekloof Chenin Blanc so distinctive. Warm days ensure generous fruit development, while cool nights lock in aromatic complexity. It’s terroir that was made for Chenin Blanc.
In the Cellar
Ivy du Toit harvested the Chenin Blanc grapes in the cool early morning hours to capture maximum aromatic freshness. The fruit was gently pressed and the free-run juice cold-settled before a slow, controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve the wine’s bright, fruit-forward character. This is a wine designed for pure, unoaked enjoyment — no barrel influence, no complications, just clean, vibrant Chenin Blanc at its most refreshing. Bottled young to capture its youthful energy and zesty appeal.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Bright, pale straw with a slight green tinge.
Nose: Fresh and inviting aromas of green apple, white pear and tropical guava, with a subtle floral lift and hints of honeydew melon.
Palate: Crisp and juicy, with generous tropical fruit and citrus flavours balanced by lively, refreshing acidity. The palate is clean and well-rounded, with a touch of honeyed richness that adds depth without heaviness.
Finish: Clean, fresh and lingering, with a fruity, easy-drinking tail that makes this wine utterly moreish.
Food Pairing
A versatile everyday white — brilliant with grilled linefish and lemon butter, a chicken and avo wrap, or a fresh prawn salad. It also pairs beautifully with a butternut soup, sushi, or a simple cheese platter with brie and crackers. For a braai-day sundowner, pour it chilled and enjoy it on its own. Serve at 8–10°C.
