The Producer
False Bay Vineyards is the brainchild of Paul Boutinot, founder of the acclaimed Waterkloof Estate on the slopes of Schapenberg. An independent company within the Waterkloof family, False Bay exists to prove that real, naturally crafted wine doesn’t have to cost the earth. Every bottle is made by Cellarmaster Nadia Langenegger using grapes from mature, often old, and always naturally balanced vineyards across the Cape’s Coastal Region. Wild yeast, minimal intervention, and zero compromise — that’s the False Bay way. The range has earned seven Platter’s Good Value awards and a DWWA Silver Medal. All wines are vegan-friendly, WWF Biodiversity Champion certified, and WIETA accredited.
Vintage & Terroir
The 2025 vintage Sauvignon Blanc hails from cool, windswept coastal vineyards in Stellenbosch — some a mere five kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean. The relentless sea breeze slows ripening, concentrates flavours, and locks in the bright natural acidity that gives this wine its signature zing. Low yields from these exposed sites produce small, intensely flavoured berries with a mineral edge.
In the Cellar
Hand-harvested grapes are gently pressed and fermented with wild yeast — the natural cultures from the vineyard itself. Cool fermentation in stainless steel preserves the vibrant fruit and zesty aromatics, while a brief period on lees adds a touch of textural complexity. No commercial yeasts, no heavy-handed winemaking — just pure, honest Sauvignon Blanc with nothing to hide.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Pale green-gold with brilliant clarity.
Nose: Fresh and zesty with grassy, dry bay leaf aromatics and mineral notes, complemented by hints of richness and tropical undertones.
Palate: Lots of minerality and citrus with lightly herbal notes. The cool coastal origin shines through in the wine’s bright acidity and concentrated flavours. Clean and refreshing with a lively, energetic mouthfeel.
Finish: Crisp and lingering with a mineral-driven freshness.
Food Pairing
A natural partner for fresh oysters, grilled crayfish, or a zingy prawn salad. It’s equally at home with a goat’s cheese tart, green asparagus, or a simple snoek braai with lemon butter. Serve well chilled at 8–10°C.
