The Producer
False Bay Vineyards is the brainchild of Paul Boutinot, founder of the acclaimed Waterkloof Estate on the slopes of Schapenberg. An independent company within the Waterkloof family, False Bay exists to prove that real, naturally crafted wine doesn’t have to cost the earth. Every bottle is made by Cellarmaster Nadia Langenegger using grapes from mature, often old, and always naturally balanced vineyards across the Cape’s Coastal Region. Wild yeast, minimal intervention, and zero compromise — that’s the False Bay way. The range has earned seven Platter’s Good Value awards. All wines are vegan-friendly, WWF Biodiversity Champion certified, and WIETA accredited.
Vintage & Terroir
The 2025 vintage brings together Cinsault (85%) and Mourvèdre (15%) from low-yielding coastal vineyards. Cinsault delivers the lifted, perfumed red fruit character, while Mourvèdre adds a backbone of depth, spice, and structure. The cool coastal climate ensures slow, even ripening, preserving the bright natural acidity that makes this blend so refreshing and drinkable.
In the Cellar
The grapes are delicately whole-bunch basket pressed — a gentle technique that extracts pure, vibrant juice while avoiding harsh tannins. Wild yeast fermentation allows the natural character of both varieties to shine, while the whole-bunch approach adds a crunchy, fresh dimension to the fruit. Minimal intervention from start to finish — just nature and patience.
Tasting Notes
Appearance: Pale salmon-pink with a bright, inviting hue.
Nose: Lifted aromas of fresh strawberry, red cherry, and pomegranate, with subtle floral notes and a hint of garrigue spice from the Mourvèdre.
Palate: Crunchy red fruit, soft tannins, and a playful savoury edge. The Cinsault brings juicy berry freshness while the Mourvèdre adds depth, spice, and a touch of structure. Light-bodied, vibrant, and endlessly drinkable.
Finish: Clean and refreshing with lingering red fruit and a savoury, spicy tail.
Food Pairing
A brilliant braai companion — try it alongside boerewors rolls, grilled chicken sosaties, or a Mediterranean mezze spread. It’s equally at home with a Nicoise salad, Thai green curry, or just a lazy afternoon with good friends. Serve lightly chilled at 12–14°C for the full experience.
