The Alvi’s Drift Fusion Red Blend 2021 is a masterful marriage of South African varietals, blending Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Petit Verdot, and Durif into an intense, opaque red wine. Bursting with complex aromas of ripe strawberry, plum, and blackcurrant, it reveals subtle layers of tobacco and spice, creating a wine that is both memorable and elegant. Velvety tannins and a full-bodied mouthfeel make each sip an experience of balance and depth, whether enjoyed young or matured for up to eight years.
On the Vines
Rooted in Alvi’s Drift’s vineyards, where a Mediterranean microclimate meets diverse soils and the nourishing waters of the Breede River, this wine reflects the unique character and complexity of its terroir. Each grape variety is carefully nurtured to express its fullest potential, resulting in a red blend that truly speaks of its origins.
In the Cellar
Every varietal in this fusion follows its own path through the cellar: some undergo open-tank fermentation with pumping-over, others complete fermentation in barrel. The wine matures for 12 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, around 33% of which are new. The final blend is then carefully assembled, showcasing the harmony of each varietal while creating a distinctive Cape red blend.
